County Residents Attend State Republican Convention
COUNTY RESIDENTS ATTEND STATE REPUBLICAN CONVENTION
Fifteen delegates representing the Republican Party of Dunn County attended the Wisconsin
State Republican Convention in Green Bay on May 11-13. Friday evening delegates enjoyed a
reception at Lambeau Field hosted by Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila with a surprise visit from Governor
Scott Walker.
Senator Alberta Darling led the morning business session which included a Credentials report
from Committee Chair and Third District Chair, Maripat Krueger of Menomonie. Dennis
Shaw of Menomonie was the recipient of the ALVAN BOVAY AWARD honoring individuals
from each Congressional District in recognition of their outstanding dedication over the
years to the Republican Party. Mr. Shaw is a former Dunn County Party Chairman and Third
District Chairman, and is currently the UW Stout College Republicans Advisor. The delegation
enthusiastically received many prominent Wisconsin legislators, highlighted by US Senator
Ron Johnson, US Congressman Paul Ryan, State Attorney General J. B. Van Hollen, Lt Governor
Rebecca Kleefisch, and Governor Scott Walker.
After adoption of the State Republican Party Platform on Saturday, the delegates heard
presentations from the four Republican candidates for US Senate: Former Wisconsin Governor
Tommy Thompson, Former U.S. Congressman Mark Neumann, Assembly Speaker Jeff
Fitzgerald, and businessman Eric Hovde. After three ballots no candidate achieved the required
60% vote resulting in no party endorsement.
Saturday’s events concluded with the County Chair’s Banquet honoring all county Chairmen
for their many hours of volunteer work at the grassroots level. Keynote speaker for the
banquet was U.S. Congressman Paul Ryan. The convention adjourned Sunday morning with an
inspirational Prayer Breakfast featuring Mrs. Tonette Walker, wife of Governor Scott Walker.
Warren Petryk, Dunn County’s 93rd Assemblyman and member of the well-known local band,
The Memories, sang two hymns at the event.
Those delegates in attendance from Dunn County were County Chairman Richard Rust & his
wife, Diane, Arden Alexander, Tim & Cassie Botty, Jake Bostrom, Charles & Maripat Krueger,
67th District Representative Tom Larson & his wife, Mary, Marv & Mary Prestrud, Dennis & Lisa
